♕ Glam Clam VS Siren Set ♕ Two Mermazing Brush Sets Compared ♕

Il post di oggi è tutto a tema pennelli: lo so, parlo pure troppo di pennelli XD Ma abbiate pazienza, sono sempre stata affetta da pennellite acuta - inoltre penso che i pennelli siano lo strumento più importante quando si tratta di make up: pennelli di qualità rendono tutto più semplice.

In questo post confronterò due set del brand Spectrum Collections, specializzato nella creazione di pennelli dal design unico e accattivante molto mermaid-inspired: questi due set in questione sono il Glam Clam ed il Siren Set. Mi è capitato più volte che mi venisse chiesto quale dei due fosse migliore secondo me, perciò oggi farò un'analisi approfondita di entrambi. Chi ne uscirà vincitore?

Today's post is all about brushes: I know, I talk a looot about brushes XD Please bear with me, I've always been a brush-aholic - also I think brushes are the most important tools when it comes to makeup:high quality brushes make everything easier.

In this post I'm going to compare two brush sets by Spectrum Collections, a brand specialized in "bold, beautiful makeup brushes for total mer-babes!" with unique designs totally mermaid inspired.
Those two sets are the Glam Clam and the Siren Set: I've been asked several times which one is the best in my opinion, so today I'm going to analyse and compare deeply both sets. Which one will be the winner?

Le Custodie / About the Case/Roll

Il set Glam Clam è racchiuso in una bellissima custodia a forma di conchiglia viola, realizzata il finta pelle lilla, rifinita con dettagli e cerniera oro rosa. Può contenere 10 pennelli e, volendo, la si può usare come pochette. NON è venduta singolarmente (ahimè).

Il Siren Set è racchiuso invece in un rotolo affettuosamente chiamato "Cute Sushi Roll": può contenere 12 pennelli ed è realizzato con uno speciale materiale olografico che simula l'effetto scaglie-scintillanti-da-sirena, corredato da una chiusura magnetica a forma di conchiglia. È possibile acquistarlo singolarmente (prezzo 24,99 £).

Se siete alla ricerca di una bella custodia da viaggio, qualcosa che non occupi molto spazio, mi sento di consigliarvi il Sushi Roll: è un'ottima opzione visto che viene venduto a parte, è molto bello ma anche molto comodo. 

La custodia Glam Clam purtroppo non è venduta singolarmente, ma in ogni caso è sì bellissima esteticamente ma occupa un po' di spazio, quindi non la consiglierei a chi viaggia - in compenso è stupenda da tenere esposta ♥

The Glam Clam features a shell shaped case, made of faux lilac leather, with rose gold zipper and detailing. Can contain 10 brushes and can be used as a real clutch. It's NOT sold individually (sadly).

The Siren Set comes with a roll nicknamed "Cute Sushi Roll": can contain 12 brushes, has magnetic shell-shaped closure and features a sparkly mermaid-like holographic fabric. It's sold individually (price: 24,99 £).

If you're looking for a cute brush roll for travel, something that can fit easily in a bag, I highly recommend the Cute Sushi Roll: since it's purchasable individually, it's a great option - not only beautiful, but also really handy. 
The Glam Case unfortunately is not sold separately, but I wouldn't recommend it for travels anyway since it takes some room - but on the other hand is such a beautiful piece of design ♥

I pennelli / About the Brushes

I pennelli occhi sono sostanzialmente gli stessi in entrambi i set (l'unico diverso è quello da eyeliner: manico dritto nel Glam Clam, manico angolato nel Siren Set) ma anche così ci sono piccole differenze a livello di setole/sezione che in qualche modo evitano l'effetto doppione, il che non è male.

Discorso diverso per i pennelli viso. A differenza del Glam Clam che contiene solo tre pennelli viso (uno angolato da blush, un flatbuki ed uno da cipria), il Siren Set ne contiene cinque (i tre suddetti più un pennello angolato più grande ed un pennello corto da contouring). I pennelli in comune hanno differenze minime anche in questo caso, vedasi la sezione sottostante con tutti i confronti.

Una differenza importante tra i due set è che il Glam Clam è venduto in un unico blocco (pennelli + custodia) mentre il Siren Set è acquistabile a pezzi, dato che è disponibile anche sotto forma di due mini-set: uno comprende i cinque pennelli viso (e si chiama "Siren Sculpt", costo 55 € circa) mentre l'altro contiene esclusivamente i sette pennelli occhi (e si chiama "Siren Smoke", costo 50 € circa).

Tutti i pennelli sono meravigliosamente soffici, non perdono colore né setole neanche a distanza di mesi, chevvelodicoaffà XD

Curiosità: le impugnature dei pennelli Siren sono verniciati con una vernice olografica che rende ogni pennello un pezzo unico.

The eye brushes are basically the same in both sets (the only different one is the eyeliner brush: straight handle on the Glam Clam set, angled ferrule on the Siren one), even though there're slight bristle/section differences which prevent them from being doubles. 

Not the same for face brushes. While the Glam Clam carries just three brushes (a blush brush, a foundation flatbuki and a powder brush), the Siren Set offers five brushes (those three plus a larger angled brush and a flat contour brush). The three in common are, again, almost the same, please keep reading for more in-depth comparisons!

One important difference between this two set is that while the Glam Clam is sold altogether (brushes + case), the Siren Set is also sold in two separated mini-sets: one with the five face brushes (named "Siren Sculpt", price 44,99 £) and another one that features the 7 smaller brushes (and this set is named "Siren Smoke" price 39,99 £).

All the brushes are the softest, their colour don't wash out at all (even after months) and they don't loose bristles, do I need to tell you this? XD

Trivia: the Siren brushes feature a particular holographic paint that makes each and every brush unique.

(Le lettere nei codici dei pennelli, affiancati ai loro nomi, indicano se sono pennelli per l'applicazione (A), per sfumatura (B) o per il contouring (C). Dato che a volte pennelli uguali vengono segnalati con nomi leggermente diversi, i codici tornano utili per evitare errori e/o confusione).

(Small guide to Spectrum brushes' code: the letters indicate whether it's an Application brush, a Buffing/Blending brush or a Contouring brush. Sometimes the brushes' name slightly changes, or are listed differently in the sets, so the codes come handy to avoid confusion).

Large Domed Powder (A01): il pennello da cipria del set, grande ma non eccessivamente. Quello che proviene dal set Glam Clam è leggermente più schiacciato alla base, per cui anche la sua sezione risulta meno tondeggiante - a differenza del fratello dark che invece presenta una sezione bella tonda, forse anche più densa. Per questo motivo tendo ad usare di più quello lilla per applicare la cipria, e tengo quello nero come pennello all-over.

Large Domed Powder (A01): a big (but not too much) powder brush. The one from the Glam Clam is slightly more compressed on the base, and for this reasons has a more flattened section - while the black one from the Siren Set has a perfect rounded section, and feels even denser. Because of this, I tend to user more the lilac one for finishing powder application, and the black one as an all-over brush.

Flat Top Buffer (B01): i flatbuki presentano piccole differenze che si notano facilmente; quello proveniente dal Siren Set è più grosso, ampio e denso rispetto all'altro, e le sue setole sono appena più lunghe (nell'ordine di un millimetro) - tuttavia, risultano egualmente funzionali per l'applicazione del fondotinta (sia esso liquido, in polvere, etc).

Flat Top Buffer (B01): the flatbukis have tiny but noticeable difference. The one from the Siren Set is quite bigger, wider and denser than the other, but they're equally good for foundation (powder, liquid, any kind of foundation!). 

Precision Blush (A05): tra questi due pennelli angolati per blush possiamo notare una differenza a livello di taglio delle setole - quello nero è palesemente più angolato rispetto all'altro, con una sezione più tonda (quello lilla anche in questo caso è più schiacciato alla base, e presenta una sezione sottile). Mai fatto mistero di non amare questa tipologia di pennelli per il blush, preferisco quelli tondi o a goccia; ad ogni modo tra i due per questo tipo di applicazione preferisco quello del Glam Clam set, mentre l'altro mi pare più adatto per il contouring. 

Precision Blush (A05): in this case the Siren Set one's is fuller, has a more oblique cut and a rounder section - again, the lilac one is more compressed at the base, resulting thinner section. I'm not a fan of this kind of brush of blush application, that being said I prefer the Glam Clam one for blush, I feel like the other one suits contouring better. 

I due che vedete qui sopra sono i due pennelli in più del Siren Set: l'Angled Powder (C04) ed il Flat Contour (C02). Sono entrambi pensati per il contouring, ed al momento sono i due pennelli che uso meno, dal momento che non sono molto pratica di contouring - il Flat Contour è unico nel mio stash, motivo per cui non posso fare particolari paragoni, mentre riguardo l'Angled Powder posso dirvi che è ben più grosso del fratellino da blush e molto denso. 

Those two are the Angled Powder (C04) and the Flat Contour (C02), the only ones that are featured only in the Siren Set. Both made for contouring purposes, at the moment these are the brushes I use less - I'm still learning how to contour XD The Angled Powder is waaay bigger than the Precision Blush by the way, while the Flat Contour is an unique piece in my stash so couldn't make any comparison.

Buffer Concealer (B03): a sinistra, un pennello da correttore da non sottovalutare assolutamente. È un piccolo gioiello, funziona egregiamente. Quello lilla è appena più piccino (le sue setole sono più corte di un paio di millimetri), mentre quello nero è più grandino - nessuna differenza a livello di applicazione, ma sono felice di averne due perché fungono bene anche come pennelli da sfumatura. 

Large Fluffy Shader (A06): a destra troviamo due dei miei pennelli preferiti di entrambi i set! Essendo belli cicciosi e grossi non sono adatti alla mia palpebra non proprio chilometrica, perciò non li uso per applicare l'ombretto. Ma trovo che siano dei meravigliosi pennelli da sfumatura e li uso spessissimo per tale scopo. Oppure li uso per applicare il colore sotto l'arcata sopraccigliare e/o per i colori di transizione poco sotto. Sono pressoché identici - quello nero è appena più piccolo, ma più denso, mentre quello lilla è un pelo più grande e più flessibile.

Buffer Concealer (B03): on the left, don't ever underestimate this kind of brush for concealer. It's truly a marvel that works wonderfully. The one from the Glam Clam is smaller and shorter (a couple of mm shorter), the black one is bigger but no application difference. Glad I have two of them! They work nicely as blending brushes too. 

Large Fluffy Shader (A06): on the right, one of my favourite brushes in both sets! They're too big for my eyelid size, so I don't actually use them as eyeshadow brushes. I think they are excellent blenders though! I also use them for my brow bone colour and for transition colours below. The black one is slightly smaller, barely noticeable, but its bristles are denser; on the other hand, the Glam Clam one's barely bigger and more flexible.

Tall Tapered Blender (B06): (sinistra) ecco i miei preferiti! ♥ Due pennelli da sfumatura eccezionali, soprattutto quello nero, che preferisco rispetto al fratello lilla perché è più ampio e denso. Non fraintendetemi, anche quello lilla è valido, ma pur essendo identici sulla carta trovo che quello nero funzioni ancora meglio!

Small Angled Blender (B04): (destra) entrambi i set propongono un secondo blending brush, stavolta in versione angolata. Ammetto di averli sottovalutati, ma dopo mesi di utilizzo ho concluso che sono molto funzionali. In questo caso i due sono alquanto diversi e ciò si nota subito: il pennello nero, proveniente dal Siren Set, è visibilmente più grosso e denso, mentre quello lilla è molto più sottile e lungo. Perciò, prediligo quest'ultimo per sfumature che richiedono maggiore precisione, mentre l'altro è perfetto per sfumature più diffuse, più smoky.

Tall Tapered Blender (B06): (left) these blenders are my very favourites from both sets ♥ I especially love the black one, because it's wider and fluffier. The lilac one works just fine, they should be the very same brush in theory, but the black is simply divine! 

Small Angled Blender (B04): (right) must say, I've underestimate this kind of blender brush. In this case these two brushes are quite different: the black one is fuller, bigger, fluffier, while the lilac one is thinner and longer. Not a problem though: I love the lilac one because is more precise, while the black one is perfect for smoky-like blendings.

Eyeliner/Fine Detailer (A19): (sinistra) quando mi è stato regalato il set Glam Clam a Giugno, il pennello da eyeliner incluso (e venduto a parte sul sito) presentava il manico dritto ma, a distanza di pochi mesi, quello individuale è stato sostituito con una nuova versione. Sempre sottile (ma potrebbe essere ancora più sottile), appena più lungo e col manico angolato. Non so se quello incluso nel set Glam Clam sia stato altrettanto rimpiazzato, però. Ad ogni modo, il manico angolato non apporta chissà quale differenza pratica. Fungono entrambi bene sia per linee di eyeliner in senso stretto, ma anche per piccoli dettagli di precisione.

Angled Brow (A17): (centro) due pennellini angolati piuttosto standard pressoché identici, ottimi sia per le sopracciglia che per l'eyeliner. Anzi, io li uso molto più come pennelli da eyeliner: essendo piccini e sottili, garantiscono righe molto precise.

Lip Liner (A15): (destra) dulcis in fundo, due pennellini labbra piccini picciò (quello nero è addirittura più piccolo dell'altro), due veri passepartout. Apprezzo molto che un set includa un pennello labbra, dato che pare essere una tipologia di pennello che viene facilmente escluso. Non ho particolari preferenze tra i due in questo caso: sono perfetti sia come pennelli labbra ma anche come pennelli di precisione.

Eyeliner/Fine Detailer (A19): (left) when I got the Glam Clam back on June, the eyeliner brush (also the one sold individually) had a straight ferrule but, after a couple of month, they introduced a new version of the same brush. Still quite thin (not the thinnest though), slightly longer and with an angled ferrule. Not sure whether the Glam Clam features the new version of this brush or not. Anyway, the angled ferrule it's not a big difference in terms of application, to be honest. They work nicely as eyeliner brushes but also as small detailer brushes. 

Angled Brow (A17): (middle) two regular angled brushes, practically identical, great for both brows and eyeliner. I actually use them a lot for eyeliner: since they're really small and thin, they grant precise and perfect lines. 

Lip Liner (A15): (right) last but not least, two little lip brushes (the black is even smaller than the other), a true passepartout. I really appreciate when sets include a lip brush - a type of brush that tends to be easily forgotten. I don't have any particular preference between the two in this case: they work just fine as lip brushes but also as detailer brushes. 

Tirando le somme / All things considered...

Consiglio Glam Clam a... tutte le amanti delle sirene come me, tanto per cominciare! A parte questo, lo consiglio a chi cerca un set né troppo grande né troppo piccolo, più incentrato sui pennelli occhi - in tal caso fa per voi, assolutamente. Aggiunge un tocco di glamour a qualsiasi collezione e contiene tutti pennelli base che tornano sempre utili - in teoria nei set capitano sempre pennelli che possono restare inutilizzati, ma in questo caso ci sono ottime probabilità che vengano sfruttati tutti in un modo o nell'altro.

Per non parlare del fatto che abbia la custodia più sirenesca di sempre u.u Potrebbe (e ripeto, potrebbe) andar bene anche per chi comincia, può essere un buon inizio ma andrebbe integrato con qualche altro pennello (un pennello da ombretto più piccino, oppure un pennello penna, per esempio).

Consiglio il Siren Set a... tutte coloro dall'anima più dark - se i colori pastello non fanno per voi e preferite tonalità più misteriose e profonde ma non volete rinunciare allo stile sirena... Perfetto per chi cerca un set con qualche pennello viso in più, o per chi vuole coccolarsi con un set lussuoso. Non mi sento di consigliarlo ai principianti: non solo è troppo costoso, i pennelli da contouring potrebbero restare inutilizzati, ma andrebbe anche lui integrato con qualche pennello. 

Ma tenete presente che è acquistabile "a metà": o la parte viso o la parte occhi. Ho visto molte sirene acquistare solo un mini-set, al posto dell'intero e costosissimo set. Tuttavia in quel caso non ricevereste la custodia.

I suggest the Glam Clam to... Well, first of all, to all the mermaids-addicts like me! If you need a smaller set, focused more on eye brushes - this is definitely the set for you! It adds a lovely touch of mermaid glam to every collection, and features all the basic brushes you need - usually there's always a couple of brushes you might end up not using at all, but in these case it is likely that you might use everyone one way or another.
Not to mention the most mermazing brush case ever u.u It might (again: might!) be good for beginners, it can be a nice start but needs to be completed with some more brushes (a smaller eyeshadow brush, a pencil brush, a precision brush, for example).

I suggest the Glam Clam to... All the dark mermaids out there - if you're not a fan of pastels, if you prefer more mysterious, deeper colours without forgoing some mermaid sparkles. Perfect if you want to treat yourself with a luxury set or if you need more face brushes. I don't feel like suggesting this set to beginners: too pricey and some brushes might end up unused (like the sculpt one). It also needs some addiction (again, smaller eyeshadow brushes, a pencil one, etc.)

Keep in mind that you can buy just one half of the set: the face part of the eye part. I've seen a lot of mermaids buying just one mini-set, instead of the whole, expensive set. In that case, though, you wouldn't get the sushi roll. 

And the winner is...

The Glam Clam!

Non ci sono dubbi: per me vince il set Glam Clam, ed è quello che continuo a consigliare praticamente a chiunque me lo chieda XD Lo preferisco perché è più conveniente in termini di prezzo (è sempre costoso, ma non a livello fucilata), il design/schema di colori è pura perfezione ed in generale offre tutto: dieci pennelli particolarissimi e la custodia più sirenesca che possa esistere. Oltre a questi pregi estetici, apprezzo l'assortimento dei pennelli inclusi - ci sono tutti gli essenziali, validissimi - ed il rapporto ragionevole qualità/quantità/prezzo. (C'è infatti un dislivello di prezzo non indifferente tra i due set, un po' troppo se considerate che il Siren Set ha solo due pennelli in più rispetto all'altro)

There's no doubt: to me, the Glam Clam wins, and that's the one I keep suggesting to basically everyone who asks me which one I prefer XD It's more convenient in terms of price (still expensive, but not crazily), the design/colour scheme is pure mermaid perfection and, more generally, it offers everything: ten gorgeous and unique brushes plus the most mermazing case ever. Other than these aesthetic qualities, I like the assortment of brushes included - all the essentials - and the quantity/quality/price ratio is good. (There's quite a huge price gap between the two sets, a little too much if you think that the Siren Set has only two more brushes than the other)
